The effort to replant mangroves at Vatutavui is steered by the Vatutavui Mangrove Reforestation Committee. The actual planting is a communal effort under the guidance of Mr. Joseva Sadulu, the Turaga ni koro (village headman), Mr. Kitione Ratuba and Mr. Naelesoni Ravato.
Monies earned from the sale of the carbon credits generated by these mangroves will be used to establish a bigger, more permanent nursery which will be used not only to germinate more mangrove propagules but also other high heat resistant plants such as mangoes and lemons. Additional polythene bags will be purchased from this money so as to pot more propagules for transplanting and for future sales to other coastal villages and communities who wish to reforest bare patches along their coastline.
